9th Company is a lifeless rip-off of nearly every American war movie made since 'Platoon'. It would not be so bad if the ripped scenes were emotionally engaging as the drill sergeants introduction from 'Full Metal Jacket' or the Cargo door opening sequence from 'Platoon' both of which are among the scenes recreated ala 1980's Afghanistan. The director touches on realism and the psychological distress associated with armed combat. The movie also gives a little into Russian culture and it's view.
The film is based on a true story of the 9th company during the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan in the 1980's. Young Soviet Army recruits are sent from a boot camp into the middle of the war in Afghanistan. The action is not like a boot camp at all. It is very bloody and dirty.
