Youtube Videos Casino Slot Play Recently
Wasn’t totally sure where to post this in the Forums, but I think here makes sense. This isn’t a full song or anything, just testing out running one of my flutes through a shimmer setting on a reverb pedal. Saw a couple videos on YouTube of someone doing this and wanted to try it myself.

I used an SM57 mic with a Hosa Impedance transformer into the pedal and then a regular instrument cable into my Spire Studio. Did some noise reduction in Audacity after. Flute is an F#/C# harmony drone by Singing Tree Flutes.

-James GalwayVery cool Brandon, I like it! Are you using a Hall of Fame 2 pedal? I’ve been playing around with the shimmer effect on that one and have enjoyed experimenting with it. Sounds like you’ve toned it down a bit for your recording as it can get pretty intense.

Personally, I don’t care for shimmer much … it kinda’ contradicts the simplicity of the NAF for what I generally enjoy from the flute. I feel that those who can’t play well sometimes over-use effects to compensate. In your case, you can play well, so I’d rather hear your playing. A constant shimmer makes me anxious, as I expect it to fade out and it doesn’t. I end up focusing, almost obsessing, on the shimmer instead of “feeling” the flute. NOW, that being said, I do like the song “Kayli” by William Gutierrez and that song has a constant shimmer. But his shimmer is sort of a backdrop to a driving melody with no pauses and the melody demands my attention over the shimmer. I also think his shimmer is at a lower volume, thereby removing it from the foreground even more.
I thought about it getting a pedal that had a shimmer option, to add some light shimmer to ends of certain sections here and there for some songs, as a segue of sorts between phrases, but unless an effect pedal has a soft switch, the “click” of turning it on and off would be a “no deal” factor.
Like anything, if YOU like it, use it and enjoy the experience, my friend. If we all liked the same stuff, and played the same way, what a boring world we would have. 😉
